The bus used to ferry people around the city of Buenos Aires, but after nine months of hard work, La Chanchita can now sleep six people. It’s also equipped with water, electricity, a shower, a toilet, and a wood stove perfect for cold evenings out in the mountains. It’s a tour bus, hotel, meeting place, and fun house all rolled into one. As it says on the company website: “Whether you want to ski, surf, skateboard, climb in the best spots of South America, the Chanchita has no limits!” Since it’s been on the road, the bus has attracted a steady stream of customers, all of whom seem to be extremely satisfied with their experience. “We couldn’t have hoped for a better week. All thanks to the kindness and generosity of this one guy,” says one trip report. The guy they are referring to is Manu Fombeurre, an adventurer and freeskier who came up with the idea for the La Chanchita Converted School Bus Camper. So if you’re looking for an adventure unlike any other, in a country full of endless natural beauty, it is probably time to start planning your next trip to South America with La Chanchita.
